Ingredients

  • 1 package extra firm tofu.
  • 1 cup quick cook oats.
  • 2 fresh garlic cloves, minced.
  • 1 Vidalia onion, diced fine.
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke flavoring.
  • 3 tablespoons light soy sauce.
  • 1/3 cup toasted wheat germ.
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat bread crumbs.
  • 2 shallots, minced.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil.
  • fine sea salt to taste.
  • cayenne pepper to taste (optional).

Instructions
  • Over medium heat, add olive oil, onions, shallots, garlic and salt.
  • Cook until onions are translucent.
  • Mash tofu and add to onion mixture, stir well.
  • Cook until tofu is golden.
  • Add additional ingredients and cook for 5 minutes while stirring.
  • Measure out 8 equal portions and form into burger patties.
  • Place burger patties on a cooking sheet coated with olive oil.
  • Pre-heat oven at 375 F.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove burgers from oven and grill each side in a skillet for an additional minute or two.
  • Server warm.
