Welcome to Vegan Mecca
So What Would You Like to Learn About Vegan Living?
The most common questions asked are, "Who are vegans and what do vegans eat?" Upon learning the answers to these questions, the next questions are typically, "where do you get your protein and calcium, and do you ever eat out?"
As strange as they are perceived to be by some non-vegetarians, vegans are regular people who choose to avoid eating, and in some cases, wearing products made from animals. Simply put, vegans are vegetarians who refrain from eating animals or anything derived from animals. In other words, they don't eat any beef, pork, chicken, fish, turkey or anything that is made from animal products such as butter, cheese, ice cream, etc. You get the idea.
Back in 1993 when I made the switch to a vegan lifestyle it was a bit more difficult to find prepared or pre-packaged vegan products. Today's vegetarians have a much easier time finding suitable foods that are rich in protein and calcium. Many neighborhood grocery stores are now carrying a variety of vegan and vegetarian products. Protein and calcium are mentioned here because they're the primary concern for most people considering a vegetarian lifestyle.
As for dining out, more and more restaurants have recognized the importance of catering to a more health conscious public, and as result, have added many tasty vegetarian (though not always vegan) dishes to their menu. Unfortunately, vegans as a whole still have less choices when dining out, especially those living in suburban areas.

Do You Love Pets?
Don't you do everything to keep your pets safe and well?
I'm sorry, but this is something I just don't get. Many meat eaters are advocates for animal rights, yet they ignore these very rights when it's time to eat. I think it's a good thing that people care about animals, even if they turn around and eat or wear them. It's just hard to grasp the hyprocrisy.
The Pet Lover.
Many pet lovers go to great lengths to rescue animals from abusive owners and adopt from shelters to save them, yet they turn a blind eye to the seneseless abuse that takes place in slaughter houses. So please help me understand this. How can you on one hand care for the cats and dogs in the shelters, but not about the chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows that are mistreated and slautered daily for your consumption? I guess I'm to believe that the burger or steak is just too irresistible and folks just can't help themselves.
I could go on and on about animal cruelty, but I think I'll let this video speak to the issue. Be forewarned, this is quite graphic and very disturbing.
I'll admit as a vegan I am a bit biased, so in an attempt to be fair I invite you to share your views on the subject here.
